Well, that depends. Most of our radio tourguide equipment operates on its own radio frequency or band of frequencies that do not rely on external networks like Wi-Fi. Most operate in licence-exempt frequencies in the UK and throughout the EU; these systems operate in frequency bands:

  • 1.8-1.9GHz (DECT)
  • 2.4GHz (independent of wi-fi)
  • 863-865MHz (UK ‘channel 70’)

However, there may be locations or events where dedicated frequencies are needed that involves obtaining a licence – in the UK, the licensing authority is ofcom.org.uk We can advise regarding the most suitable system for special events or locations, and arrange a license if required.
